Marco Rubio’s Energy Plan Reads Like A Big Oil And Koch Wishlist

October 16, 2015

Today, Marco Rubio released his energy plan, promising to help American “take full advantage of our energy potential.” But his plan reads like a Koch Industries wishlist: Rubio pushes to end the oil export ban, build Keystone despite environmental concerns, and phase out the Renewable Fuel Standard.

In response to Rubio’s plan, American Bridge President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“Marco Rubio says his energy plan will bring the country into a the 21st century. However, the ever-absent senator’s policies aren’t original or groundbreaking. Rubio is advocating for outdated practices that would take us back decades in addressing climate change. Just like Jeb Bush and the rest of the GOP field, Marco Rubio’s plan promises to protect big oil and the Koch brothers, instead of growing clean energy and protecting the environment.”

“Frugal” Rubio Spends Big Bucks To Impress Koch Brothers

October 16, 2015

With Scott Walker’s recent departure from the presidential race, Marco Rubio has been leaning in to his role as new Koch favorite. Rubio’s positions on ending the Ex-Im Bank, blocking a minimum wage increase, and pushing a tax plan that would give tax breaks to the top one percent mean that the Florida senator has been in the running for the Kochs’ invisible primary since its start.

In the past month, he’s taken on even more extracurricular Koch activities to impress the brothers. Earlier this week, the candidate held a town hall in Nevada with the Koch front group, the LIBRE Initiative. And next week he’ll do a town hall with another Koch front group, Concerned Veterans for America.

Now, it seems that the so-called “frugal” campaign that Rubio is running has been spending big bucks to get an in with the Kochs. According to Politico, the campaign “spent about $271,000 […]

Marco Rubio, LIBRE Team Up To Push The Koch Agenda

October 13, 2015

Today, Marco Rubio will participate in a town hall in Boulder City, Nevada organized by the Kochs’ so-called Latino outreach group, the LIBRE Initiative. LIBRE claims to advocate for policies that help Latinos, but in reality the group pushes for policies that help Charles and David Kochs’ bottom line.

In participating in LIBRE’s town hall, Marco Rubio is showing yet again that there’s only one thing he’s interested in — a piece of the $900 million the Kochs have said they’ll spend in this election. On issue after issue, Rubio’s been a strong supporter of the Koch agenda — opposing the Ex-Im Bank, fighting against net neutrality, blocking a raise to the minimum wage, opposing bankruptcy protections for Puerto Rico, and supporting tax cuts for rich special interests like the Kochs. Just this week, a new report revealed that Rubio could be the new “front-runner” for the billionaire brothers.

But by aligning himself with LIBRE, Marco Rubio is signaling that if […]

Is Rubio The Kochs’ New Front-Runner?

October 7, 2015

Today, a new report claims Marco Rubio could be the new “front-runner” for the billionaire brothers’ “big prize,” a piece of the nearly $1 billion they’ve promised to spend on the 2016 election.

From the New York Daily News:

According to a political insider who ran into David Koch at a recent event in Manhattan, Florida Sen. Rubio is the front-runner for [the Kochs’] dough now that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is out of the race….We’re also told that Koch had nothing but nice things to say about Rubio, with whom he agrees on “most of the substantial issues.”

We’re sure Marco Rubio is jumping for joy that David Koch has finally noticed that on “most of the substantial issues,” Rubio is willing to toe the Koch line.

For months, Rubio has taken every available opportunity to show his deep allegiance to the Kochs’ “libertarian” causes in hopes they’ll spend big on his campaign. […]

Kelly Ayotte Reaps Rewards For Siding With The Kochs While New Hampshire Pays The Price

October 5, 2015

All eyes are on the New Hampshire Senate race today as Kelly Ayotte’s chances continue to rapidly decline.

And with her campaign in free fall who is Ayotte likely to call first for help? Her billionaire friends, Charles and David Koch.

In the Senate, Ayotte has built a record that shows who she puts first — special interest billionaires like the Koch brothers.

Ayotte has eagerly done what’s best for the billionaire brothers including  opposing raising the minimum wageprotecting tens of billions of dollars in special tax breaks for big oil companies,  voting to roll back Wall Street reform, and more.

And while New Hampshire families aren’t better off, Kelly Ayotte is reaping the benefits of toeing the Koch line.

Already this cycle, the Koch brothers have spent $1.2 million propping up  Ayotte because they know she’ll continue to do their bidding in the U.S. Senate.

And over […]

Who’s On The Kochs’ Shortlist For Speaker? Kevin McCarthy.

September 29, 2015

Whoever is elected to the next class of House Republican leadership will no doubt have to pass the litmus test administered by Charles and David Koch and commit to pushing their self-enriching agenda that’s good for billionaires like the Kochs and bad for middle class families across the country.

As Kevin McCarthy emerges as the top contender to be the next Speaker of the House, he’s no doubt positioned himself to be a Koch favorite to lead House Republicans.

The Kochs have been with McCarthy since his first campaign for Congress and contributed over $55,000 to his campaigns over the course of his career. And on issue after issue — from pushing deauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank to lifting the oil export ban, opposing Wall Street Reform,  blocking environmental regulations, and more — McCarthy has been fully supportive of the Koch agenda.

While the GOP leadership infighting is likely far from over — […]

Pat Toomey Rakes In More Koch Ca$h

September 22, 2015

In the Senate, Pat Toomey has championed the Koch agenda at the expense of Pennsylvania, putting billionaire special interests and Wall Street ahead of Pennsylvania’s middle class and working families including fighting to repeal Dodd-Frank and  opposing raising the minimum wage.

And now the Kochs are doing everything they can to ensure that Pat Toomey — and their other puppet candidates — get reelected because they can’t afford to lose those who do their bidding in Washington.

Revealed today, Charles and David’s political action committee cut Toomey another $2,500 check in August, bringing the grand total of Koch PAC cash that Toomey’s campaign has taken to $7,500 for the cycle and $18,000 over the course of his career.

That’s not the only Koch cash Pat Toomey has in his pocket. Since 2010, Toomey has received over $16,000 from the personal accounts of the Koch family.

But cash isn’t the only way the Kochs are propping up Toomey. […]

“King Of Kochworld” Falls But Rest Of GOP Field Ready To Put The Kochs First

September 22, 2015

Scott Walker was the Kochs’ chosen one, the “King of Kochworld.” The Kochs hand-picked Walker because of his deep commitment to putting the Kochs’ self-enriching agenda ahead of everything else. On nearly every single issue, Walker was the Kochs’ model candidate. Whether it was attacking health care reform, slashing funding for education, working to disenfranchise voters, or hurting working families, when the Kochs said jump, Scott Walker said, “How high?”

While the Kochs won’t get a return on their investment under a President Walker, the rest of the GOP field is just as cozy with the Kochs and committed to moving the billionaires’ self-interested, profit-maximizing agenda forward.

In the end, whomever the Republican nominee is, the Kochs won’t lose. Like Walker, the rest of the GOP field is committed to toeing the Koch line:

Jeb Bush is no stranger in Koch country, as his ties to the billionaire brothers run deep. Jeb’s association […]

Rand Paul, LIBRE Team Up To Push The Koch Agenda In Las Vegas

September 17, 2015

This evening Senator Rand Paul will meet with the LIBRE Initiative at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. The LIBRE Initiative calls itself a “grassroots organization” that was created to “empower Hispanics” but it’s really a front group pushing the Koch brothers’ agenda.

Despite efforts to integrate into the Latino community, the Republican-operative run organization has a reputation for taking positions that will hurt Latinos and immigrants. Their executive director, Daniel Garza, has testified against President Obama’s protections against deportation. The front group also opposes raising the minimum wage and wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, stances which will disproportionately affect the very demographic they say they represent.

Paul’s meeting with the LIBRE Initiative might as well be another attempt to pander to Charles and David Koch. Read more about the LIBRE Initiative in Bridge Project’s report, “Kochs’ LIBRE Initiative Is Harmful To Hispanic Community.”

Guess Those #Millennials Didn’t Like Koch Uncle Sam Ultrasounds

September 2, 2015

#Millennial. #Outreach. #Fail.

They didn’t break the news on Snapchat, but a new report from CNN reveals that Generation Opportunity, the Kochs’ youth outreach front group that tries to push their self-serving agenda to millennials, is a massive failure:

The president of one the top nonprofits bankrolled by Charles and David Koch has left the organization to start another major group in the powerful Republicans’ orbit, CNN has learned….[Generation Opportunity’s Executive Director Evan] Feinberg’s move is the most high-profile loss in what people familiar with Generation Opportunity describe as a string of senior level departures that are roiling the nonprofit group….Feinberg’s departure is one of many from Generation Opportunity: About 55% of the organization has left their jobs since late November, according to a comparison of staff lists on the organization’s website.

Generation Opportunity tries to be a mouthpiece for the Koch agenda, aiming to put the Kochs’ own profit ahead of the […]

Just Another Stop On The Koch Road Show For Koch Favorite Ted Cruz

August 24, 2015

After Jeb Bush’s tepid performance at the Koch’s American for Prosperity summit yesterday, Koch road show regular Ted Cruz is sure to get David Koch and other Koch network donors on their feet today with his fiery endorsement of the Koch agenda and his passionate commitment to moving it forward.

One of the Kochs’ chosen five, Cruz is a favorite at Koch events —  for years he’s taken center stage at AFP, Concerned Veterans for America, Freedom Partners, and other Koch network donor confabs.

And in the Senate, Cruz is one of the loudest advocates and defenders of the Koch agenda — putting special interests and billionaires like the Kochs ahead of middle class and working families.

So, in comparison to Jeb’s smattering of “polite applause,” will Ted Cruz’s deep allegiance to the Kochs and his audition today win him a piece of the $900 million the Kochs said they will spend on this election?

In conjunction with this weekend’s […]

Marco Rubio: The Final Koch Puppet On The Koch Stage In Columbus

August 24, 2015

Expecting for Marco Rubio to make news as the last candidate at the Koch/AFP summit? Think again. Rubio is no novice to delivering his carefully crafted argument to his favorite constituency: Charles and David Koch.

As one of the five on the Kochs’ shortlist, Rubio has had many opportunities to show his deep allegiance to the Kochs “libertarian” causes in hopes they’ll spend part of the $900 million they said they’ll spend in 2016 on his campaign.

Recently, Rubio’s taken every potential opportunity he can to suck up to the Kochs, but just like every other candidate this weekend, his Koch ties run long and deep. Additionally, Rubio’s been a strong supporter of the Koch agenda — opposing the Ex-Im Bank, fighting against net neutrality, blocking a raise to the minimum wage, and supporting tax cuts for rich special interests like the Kochs.

In his relentless attempt to win over the Kochs, Rubio has completely disregarded that what’s good for the […]

Not A Surprise: Scott Walker Touts The Koch Agenda In New Health Care Plan

August 18, 2015

As Scott Walker continues to take pages from the playbooks of Ted Cruz and Donald Trump to save his plummeting campaign, today he’s reminding the Koch brothers that he’s still relevant by trumpeting their health care agenda in Minnesota.

Other than growing their own bank accounts, repealing Obamacare has been priority #1 for the Kochs. Over the past few years, they’ve put their money where their mouth is, spending millions to upend the Affordable Care Act, bankrolling legal challenges to the ACA, and using scare tactics to spread lies about health care reform.

Even as the uninsured rate falls below 10% — the lowest in 40 years — the Kochs show no signs of ending their high-dollar crusade to deny Americans health care.

And in Walker’s latest attempt to court a slice of the $900 million the Kochs plan to spend propping up Republican candidates, today he attacked Mitch McConnell and other Washington […]

NOT BREAKING: Area Koch Brothers Mouthpiece To Give Speech Tonight

July 10, 2015

If there was any doubt what constituency is most important to Marco Rubio, tune into his speech at “FreedomFest” in Las Vegas tonight. What you’ll hear is a carefully crafted argument to appeal to two men: Charles and David Koch.

It’s no secret the Koch primary is on. And for the five candidates who made the shortlist, winning that contest means a faithful allegiance to their “libertarian” causes.

For example, just a few days ago Rubio called higher education “a cartel.” That little gem mimics a Koch front group’s website trying to convince younger Americans that more student debt and a deregulated higher education system will somehow improve their futures.

Wondering what other acts Rubio will do in his Vegas Koch show? The same tired policies that help billionaires like the Kochs cloaked in grandiose language of a “New American Century.” In addition to calling education “a cartel,” other items on the Koch agenda that Rubio […]

How Conservatives Took Over Wisconsin

July 3, 2015

Wisconsin’s current political landscape looks wildly different than it did just a few years ago. Long a state with reliably Democratic leanings, everything changed in 2010 when conservative outside groups helped flip the state legislature and governor’s office from blue to red.

Led by Governor Scott Walker, the state’s new Republican leadership quickly set about imposing its extreme conservative agenda. They introduced an assault on collective bargaining rights that effectively cut public workers’ pay and destroyed their ability to negotiate over health coverage, safety, or sick leave. The severity of the bill prompted impassioned protests centered around the state capitol and forced Republican lawmakers to use underhanded measures to pass it without a single Democrat. Although a judge initially blocked the law because of the Republican tactics, it was reinstated by the state Supreme Court, which had maintained a conservative majority thanks to a narrowly re-elected justice whose campaign got significant […]

AFP To 2016 Candidates: Pretend To Care About Income Inequality

June 17, 2015

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) has some advice for the 2016 GOP field — at least act like you care about income inequality.

In a Fox News interview, AFP president Tim Phillips said, “We think it’s important to have these candidates address [income inequality].” Is this a turning point for the Kochs? Have they changed their greedy ways?

No, the Kochs are not suddenly interested in eradicating the income gap or helping the poor. Phillips says it’s “because in 2012 [income inequality] was a killer. It really harmed and hurt Mitt Romney.”

It’s rich for AFP to address income inequality — their website only has one extensive piece on the issue. Entitled “Federal Government Is Not The Solution To Income Inequality,” the organization argues against federal policies that benefit the working class such as the Buffet Rule and a federal minimum wage increase. The only “solution” ever offered is a call for the expansion of school choice […]

Executive Director of Koch Latino Group Holds Dramatic Reading of Bridge Project Report

June 8, 2015

Daniel Garza, the executive director of the Koch-bankrolled LIBRE Initiative, apparently read Bridge Project’s report on his group this weekend. Judging by his Twitter account, the only gripe he could find with the in-depth research on LIBRE’s hypocritical policies against Latinos — while purporting to represent Latinos — was about him.

In particular, Garza has compared himself to Moses, Esther, Daniel, Joseph, King David, Martin Luther King Jr., the Salvation Army, and the Underground Railroad. According to Garza’s dramatic reading of Bridge Project’s report, raising his comparison of himself to biblical leaders amounts to a political attack. Quoting scripture is not extreme — but thinking that you should be in the same breath as Moses is.

Bridge Project’s report revealed LIBRE’s continued advocacy against the interests of the Hispanic community that they supposedly represent. The report uncovers that LIBRE advocates for Koch-backed policies that disproportionately hurt Hispanics including repealing the Affordable […]

The Kochs diversify their GOP investment by backing multiple candidates

This weekend, David Koch confirmed that the billionaire brothers will use the roughly $900 million they are doling out for the 2016 presidential race to bankroll multiple GOP contestants. The Kochs have already revealed their top draft picks this cycle are Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio. They’re going to do the same with the Republican presidential field as they are with their business portfolio: diversify their investments. They want to make sure they own whichever GOP nominee is competing for the White House.

The Republican wannabees are already running to the right to cater to Koch priorities on the flat tax, the Export-Import Bank, and the minimum wage. How far will the GOP presidential field go for a chunk of Koch cash?

Check out Bridge Project’s web ad, “Koch Tank” that gives a sneak peak of the Kochs’ auditions to pick their GOP presidential candidates.

The Continued Koch Assault on American Workers

May 8, 2015

The Kochs’ model Governor, Indiana’s Mike Pence, did even more damage to Indiana’s reputation this week when he signed a bill into law repealing Indiana’s common construction wage. The repeal does away with local boards that ensure construction workers earn a fair wage when building public projects.

The Kochs, who have attacked minimum wage laws nationwide, came out with full-throated support of Pence’s bill. Americans for Prosperity, the Kochs’ political arm bought radio ads in Indiana pushing the bill. The Kochs’ love affair with Pence goes back a long way. As Governor of Indiana, Pence enacted tax cuts, which benefited the state’s top earners — a move straight out of the Koch playbook. Also, at least three different former Pence staffers who are now embedded in the Kochs’ political network. Indeed, AFP operatives are so enamored with Pence’s Koch-backed policies that they held up Indiana as a example of a “model state” […]

Bush Hires Staff with Deep Koch Ties

May 4, 2015

Jeb Bush figured out yet another way to suck up to the Koch brothers: Hire their former staff for his campaign. Conveniently, as the Kochs hold open auditions to find their preferred presidential candidate, Bush is adding Jose Mallea, the former national strategic director for the LIBRE Initiative. LIBRE is the Kochs’ front group for Latino outreach.

The LIBRE Initiative has received at least $10 million from the Koch money machine, Freedom Partners, to push the Koch agenda under the facade of Hispanic outreach. While the LIBRE Initiative claims that they are working to empower the Hispanic community, the reality is that they are promoting Koch policies at the expense of Hispanics. LIBRE opposes policies that disproportionately help Hispanics including the Affordable Care Act, minimum wage increases, and immigration reform. Mallea led LIBRE through the 2014 elections when the group challenged Latino candidates in favor […]

Koch-backed LIBRE Would Remove Deportation Protections for Millions

April 30, 2015

While the Koch-backed LIBRE Initiative would like you to believe that they are working to support the Hispanic community, the reality is that they mainly advocate for the issues of their benefactors: the Koch brothers. Freedom Partners, a group funded by the billionaires, has given LIBRE at least $10 million to push its agenda. LIBRE campaigns against policies that disproportionately help Hispanics including the Affordable Care Actminimum wage increases, and immigration reform.

In March, Executive Director Daniel Garza testified against deportation protections for millions through DAPA, calling it “executive overreach” at a congressional hearing.

Of course, they conspicuously leave all that out during their community outreach.

Washington Post: Koch brothers cater to Latinos, hoping for votes

Cristóbal Alex, president of the Victory Fund, said LIBRE offers handouts and “talks about immigration in a positive way” but “is really doing work on behalf of the Koch brothers who put huge money behind candidates against […]

Cutting Seniors’ Benefits to Win the Blessing of the Kochs

April 30, 2015

Last week, Politico got its hands on a secret Koch brothers memo to their donors about their plot to expand into new states, recruit new donors, and continue to co-opt the Republican Party — and its presidential field — as the 2016 cycle gets underway. The secret memo the Kochs never wanted us to see gives the 2016 GOP wannabes a roadmap of Koch priorities that will help in their audition for Koch cash: repealing federal support for wind energy, eliminating estate taxes that largely benefit the very wealthy, defunding the EPA, all in service of their bottom line. The Kochs’ priorities, however, would be disastrous for the American people.

In the memo, the Kochs go even farther, taking a page from Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” playbook and appallingly putting blame on social welfare programs for sustained poverty. “The irony is maddening. America’s poor have been shackled by […]

Don’t Worry Yet, Jeb. Auditions for Koch Kingdom Continue

April 21, 2015

The Kochs’ invisible primary took a few twists in the last 24 hours. After David Koch signaled his support for Scott Walker — nudging his vast finance network to fall in line — Koch political operatives are backtracking and assuring the public that auditions for the keys to Koch Kingdom are far from over. Even Jeb Bush will be invited to compete for $889 million the Kochs have promised to spend, which could now be spent in the primary. The Kochs are hedging their bets, though, with a crony telling Politico: “We wouldn’t want to take options off the table by getting behind one of them now,” since the Kochs are fiercely political and want to make sure they own whichever GOP nominee is competing for the White House.

If you believe David Koch’s blabber-mouthing yesterday, Scott Walker is leading the pack. “We will support whoever the candidate is,” said Mr. Koch, […]

Rand Paul redefines sucking up to Koch brothers

April 16, 2015

Rand Paul pulled one of the biggest suck-ups of all time when he said, “the Kochs have consistently lobbied against special-interest politics,” in his lavish praise of the Koch brothers in TIME. Rand either doesn’t understand the definition of “special interest” or ignored the Koch brothers’ long history of being “takers,” not “makers” as Paul Ryan would say — redefining special interest politics in the process.

As everyone knows, the Kochs might not walk the halls of Congress themselves, but they plan to spend $889 million to buy the 2016 election and employ an army of political operatives to strong-arm the Republican Party. One by one, Republican presidential candidates, governors, senators and House members are signing onto the Kochs’ extreme worldview: Tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate America, eliminating the minimum wage, slashing Medicare and dismantling Social Security, and opposition to safe air and water standards, to name a few.

The Koch […]

Promoting the Koch Agenda at the Expense of Hispanics

April 7, 2015

The Koch-funded LIBRE Initiative claims their mission is to advance liberty and freedom in the Hispanic community. The group is actually a shameless ploy to make inroads with a fast growing constituency in advance of the 2016 elections.

Just yesterday, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Center for Shared Services, a recruiting arm for Koch-backed organizations, posted openings for LIBRE Initiative jobs in Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, Colorado, and Virginia – states with that also happen to be heavily contested in the 2016 elections.

According to Conservative Transparency, Freedom Partners, the Koch money machine, donated $3.3 million in 2013. In addition, LIBRE has received large donations from other Koch-related groups.

While LIBRE wants you to think that they are empowering Hispanics, they are actually promoting the Koch agenda at the expense of Hispanics by campaigning for policies that would hurt the community. As UCLA political […]
