Students Across The Country: Keep Our Campuses Koch-Free

November 6, 2015

One of Charles and David Koch’s most ambitious PR schemes is facing major setbacks: A recent Center for Public Integrity report exposing the Koch effort to infiltrate and hijack higher education on a national level is making waves — and, from Florida and Maryland to Utah and Wisconsin, outraged students are fighting back.

In the last month, students at the University of Wisconsin and University of Maryland have taken to the opinion pages of their college newspapers and accused the Kochs of using their “philanthropy” to influence curriculae and advance their political agenda.

Now the student backlash has gone national, inciting on-campus protests and spilling over into major news publications across the country.

At Utah State University, for example, The Salt Lake Tribune reports that students are calling for greater transparency with regard to the Koch brothers’ donations to the school:

[T]he terms of a current contract with the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation are still […]

Arizona Daily Star Op-Ed Slams The Kochs’ Plan To Privatize & Profit Off Of Public Lands

November 6, 2015

The Koch brothers and their big-industry allies have for years had their sights on privatizing and profiting off of America’s public lands. Their efforts took a leap forward when Republicans in Congress moved the Koch agenda forward by allowing the Land and Water Conservation Fund to expire at the end of September.

In an op-ed in the Arizona Daily-Star, Arizona Sierra Club Director Sany Bahr calls out the billionaire Kochs and the Republicans they back for threatening Arizona’s natural beauty:

Arizona has been called the “land of extremes…land of contradictions” because of its unique beauty.

The Kochs have been described similarly, but because of their greed and hypocrisy. The Koch brothers will continue to advocate for what is best for their profits, even if that means the destruction of landmarks and natural wonders that have been beloved for generations.

Arizona must fight to keep its environment as enriched as always. We can’t allow the Koch brothers to find more riches […]

Koch Front Group CVA Launches Attack Ads In Presidential Race

November 6, 2015

A new report from AP reveals the billionaire Koch brothers have started to pour money into attack ads through their so-called veterans group, Concerned Veterans for America.

One of the Kochs’ many front groups, Concerned Veterans for America, is spending at least $100,000 on attack ads because they want to buy the White House for a GOP candidate who will marching orders from Charles and David Koch and advance their self-enriching agenda, which includes privatizing the VA.>

From American Bridge VP Eddie Vale:

“The Koch brothers’ front groups are already pouring money attacks ads because they know that’s the only way to buy the White House for one of Charles and David Koch’s puppet candidates. On the Republican side, presidential candidates from Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush to Ted Cruz continue to endlessly tout how they back the Kochs’ self-enriching agenda, which is good for the Kochs but when their harmful agenda […]

Five Moments To Remember From The Kochs On Morning Joe

November 5, 2015

While Joe Scarborough is spending another day defending Charles and David Koch, Morning Joe wasn’t the last time voters will see the billionaire Koch brothers on TV. A new ad out from Bridge Project shows how Democrats can seize on the Koch message and communicate how the Kochs pull the strings of their puppet candidates who back an agenda that’s good for the Kochs but hurts the middle class and working families… in 30 seconds. Watch “Something In Return”here

In addition to Charles Koch’s admission that when he spends millions propping up a candidates, “I expect something in return,” here’s five more moments to remember from Charles and David Koch on Morning Joe:

1. KOCH SPIN: Charles Koch looked really disappointed when stressing that he and his brother really aren’t impressed with any of the GOP presidential candidates.

REALITY CHECK: By staying out of the primary race, the Koch brothers have ensured the entire Republican field […]

NEW REPORT: Koch Criminal Justice Advocacy Protects Their Corporate Interests

November 5, 2015

The Koch brothers have proved well-versed in every political game there is over the years, working to rig the system in their favor. Their latest trick is convincing the media and public that they are sincerely interested in reforming America’s criminal justice system. Their criminal justice PR stunt has already won them favorable headlines and charitable attributions.

Today, Bridge Project is releasing a new report on the Kochs’ PR push and greed-driven advocacy for criminal justice reform entitled, “Koch Advocacy For Criminal Justice Reform Is Driven By The Motivation To Protect Their Own Corporate Interests And Profits.” The report dives into the Koch initiative’s sinister roots.

The Kochs’ determination to grow their empire has meant shirking legal and moral codes repeatedly, leaving their businesses racked with plenty of violations. In the 1990s, four employees at a Koch refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, were indicted on criminal charges for violating the Clean Air […]

Kochs Swing And Miss In 3 Crucial Swing States

November 4, 2015

The Kochs went all in for the 2015 election, investing heavily in ballot initiatives and races up and down the ticket. But Charles and David came up short yesterday in three crucial swing states: Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Ohio.

In Pennsylvania, a Koch-linked group spent $1 million trying to tip the scales in a state Supreme Court yesterday. All three open Pennsylvania Supreme Court seats were won by Democrats. In Colorado, Charles and David’s AFP spent hundreds of thousands in two county school board elections, fueling “a money-soaked proxy war.”  Again, the Kochs lost big.  And in Ohio, 76% of voters approved the Coloumbus Zoo and Aquarium’s levy renewal — a cause the Kochs have been fighting for over a year.

Charles and David can’t be happy with these results: They don’t bode well for the Kochs’ prospects in 2016, when they plan to spend hundreds of millions more hawking the same […]

In An Off-Year Election, The Kochs Remain As Invested As Ever

November 3, 2015

It’s Election Day 2015 — and the Kochs have a lot of money on the line. It may be an off-year election, but Charles and David Koch are as invested as ever. Though they downplay the extent of their influence and impact of their machinations, up and down the ticket — from Colorado and Utah, to Kentucky, Mississippi, and Virginia — Charles and David Koch are using sizable investments and politically-weaponized front groups to influence electoral outcomes and advance their selfish agenda.

The Kochs get a lot attention — deservedly — for their massive investments in congressional, gubernatorial, and presidential elections, but they aren’t afraid to get local, either. The Koch’s Americans for Prosperity dropped big money in Jefferson County, Colorado, turning the school board election into “a money-soaked proxy war.” In Douglas County, CO, AFP’s spent more than $130,000. And over in Utah, AFP’s been lobbying hard against a gas tax ballot initiative.

Back East, […]

11 Questions For Charles & David Koch

November 2, 2015

Tomorrow, Charles and David Koch will sit down with Morning Joe for their much anticipated, first-ever joint television interview. Without a doubt, the billionaire brothers will use the interview to try to mask how they’re driven by a self-enriching and self-interested agenda. The Kochs use their wealth and influence to control the GOP agenda and back puppet candidates, which is a winning formula for the Kochs’ bottom line but hurts the middle class.

Here are 11 questions Charles and David Koch should answer on Morning Joe:

1. By not endorsing in the GOP presidential primary, each candidate continues to jockey for your support and is “looking to hone their message to appeal” to you. Donald Trump even called the candidates that appeared before you at your California fundraiser “puppets.” Are you the puppet masters of the Republican party?

2. You claim only a portion of the money you’re spending on […]

GOP Presidential Candidates, Vulnerable GOP Senators Follow Kochs On Debt Deal

October 30, 2015

Even Paul Ryan supported the bipartisan debt deal but GOP presidential candidates and Republican senators facing tough reelection battles opposed it left and right.

Why? Because GOP presidential candidates, including Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, and Republican senators, including Rob Portman, Pat Toomey, Ron Johnson, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr, and Rand Paul, would rather score points with the Kochs than support a bipartisan solution to avoid a default that would harm the full faith and credit of the United States.

Through AFP President Tim Phillips, LIBRE Initiative Executive Director Daniel Garza,Taxpayers Protection Alliance President David Williams, and others, Koch HQ signaled their opposition to the bipartisan debt deal and GOP candidates in tough races were more than eager to fall in line in hopes of winning a piece of the nearly $900 million the Kochs plan to spend on 2016 to buy the White House and ensure those that do their bidding […]
