The Kochs Don’t Need To Endorse

November 11, 2015

Sound the alarm — BIG NEWS — Charles Koch revealed to USA Today that he and his billionaire brother aren’t backing a candidate in the GOP primary. That’s because they don’t need to endorse: no matter who wins the GOP nomination they’ll be a puppet of the Koch brothers and beholden to their agenda that stacks the deck in favor of billionaires like them.

Here’s five takeaways from Charles Kochs’ latest stop on his PR tour:

  1. The Kochs see the light – they’re not endorsing in the GOP primary because every candidate is beholden to them & backs their agenda.

Charles Koch must have come to the same conclusion we’ve made about the GOP primary field: Why bother endorsing? Every Republican candidate in the field is a winner for the Kochs. From Marco Rubio to Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, the Kochs have been successful in ensuring each GOP candidate is 100% beholden to them and committed to advancing an agenda that’s good for billionaires like the Kochs but bad for real people.

And the billionaire brothers not making a primary endorsement isn’t going to stop any GOP candidate from their constant pandering to the Kochs — “[Charles] said he’s likely to help a Republican presidential candidate in the general election.” (big surprise he’s already committed to team GOP!)

  1. Don’t worry Republicans, there’s plenty of Koch cash for everyone that backs their self-enriching agenda!

While the GOP field is probably a little sad that none of them are getting an official Koch endorsement, Charles Koch’s USA Today interview should bring the Republican party relief that there will be plenty of Koch cash to go around in 2016.

Just weeks ago, the Kochs tempered expectations that their network would spend “only” $750 million propping up GOP candidates in 2016. Today, Charles walked that back, highlighting that the Koch network is on track to raise nearly $900 million in special interest cash for candidates that back their agenda.

  1. GOP candidates are appearing before David Koch in New York City

The Koch brothers — just two billionaires preaching their Midwestern values… from their Upper East Side penthouse. Right.

On the Republican candidates he favors, Charles Koch said that his brother, David, “talks to them a lot more…Being in New York, it’s easier for everybody to come and see him.”

Which GOP candidates have orchestrated their schedules to appear before David Koch in New York City in hopes of winning his favor? We know Rubio is approaching frequent flyer status on the Koch corporate jet.

  1. Don’t tell Charles Koch a book criticizing him is selling better than his own.

Charles Koch says he’s “getting strong feedback” on his new book, Good Profit, which”hit No. 3 among business books tracked by Nielsen BookScan during the week ending Oct. 30.”

Poor Charles, he’s probably said that a book criticizing him and his political network debuted higher on the New York Times best seller list — number five on the hardcover best seller list — than his — number seven in an obscure category.

  1. Sorry Charles, despite the fact you’re shaking in your boots, we’re not going to stop working to expose your motivations in putting hundreds of millions behind GOP candidates.

USA Today reports on our efforts to expose the Koch brothers’ motivations, “American Bridge, a Democratic group devoted to uncovering politically damaging information about Republicans, has 10 staffers dedicated to researching the Kochs.”

Bridge Project is committed to exposing how the Koch brothers are spending millions backing puppet candidates and pushing an agenda that’s good for them but bad for the middle class. And what we know is that the more people learn about the Kochs — the more they dislike them.
